Software development forUK companies

A senior engineering team for UK founders, CTOs, and operations leads who need software shipped — without a local hire, a day-rate contractor who leaves with the context, or a retainer you cannot get out of.

What Blackbyrds Digital does in United Kingdom

Blackbyrds Digital is a global digital engineering and technology partner based in Silang, Cavite, Philippines, working with companies in the United Kingdom. We design and build web applications, internal platforms, SaaS products, and AI automation — quoted as a fixed price in GBP against a written scope, delivered by senior engineers whose afternoon overlaps the UK morning. Founded in 2017, more than 70 products shipped, no retainer lock-in, and a written handover at the end of every project.

Overlap with our day
Philippine time is UTC+8 — seven hours ahead of BST, eight ahead of GMT. On a standard Philippine day the live overlap with UK office hours is roughly two hours in summer and about one in winter, and all of it lands at the start of your morning. Shifting our start to midday PHT covers your morning and into your early afternoon instead.

Europe

The British context.

Most UK companies weighing up an offshore engineering partner are not short of ideas — they are short of engineering hours. Senior React, TypeScript, and backend people in London, Manchester, Bristol, and Edinburgh are competed over hard, notice periods run to three months for anyone worth hiring, and the roadmap does not pause while a search runs. The alternative most teams try first is a contractor on a day rate, which works until the contract ends and the context walks out with them.

Working with a studio eight time zones away changes the shape of the day rather than the quality of the work. The tail of our afternoon is the start of your morning, which is enough for a standup, a demo, or a decision that would otherwise cost a full day of waiting. Everything else runs in writing — a branch with a preview deployment, a note on what moved and what is blocked — so your 09:00 begins with reviewable progress instead of a status request.

We take fixed-scope work and quote a fixed price in GBP: a marketing site that has to be fast and crawlable, an internal platform replacing a decade of spreadsheets, a SaaS product that needs to reach paying users, or an AI layer inside a process currently eating a team’s week. Blackbyrds Digital has been doing this since 2017 and has shipped more than 70 products. Build better, ship faster, scale smarter — as a partner you brief, not a body shop you bill by the seat.

Why partner

Why British companies work with us.

Senior capacity without a local hire

The bottleneck in most UK product teams is not appetite, it is finding a senior engineer who can actually start. Between the search, the offer, and a notice period that regularly runs to three months, a hire made today lands on your roadmap next quarter. A studio engagement starts on a date you pick and ends when the scope is delivered, with no permanent team to keep busy afterwards.

Your morning starts with yesterday’s work

Eight hours of separation is only a problem if you try to run a project synchronously. Scoped properly it works in your favour: we build while your office is closed, so the UK morning becomes review time rather than briefing time. What that demands from us is written handovers and a preview environment on every branch — which is how we would run it anyway.

Design, engineering, and AI in one studio

Splitting a build across a design agency, a development shop, and an automation consultant means you own the integration risk between them. We run UX/UI, front end, back end, and the AI or automation layer from the same team, so the person designing the flow and the person shipping it are in the same conversation. For a UK company without an internal product function, that removes an entire coordination job.

Work your own team can pick up

Plenty of what reaches a studio is not greenfield: a half-finished build, an agency that stopped answering, a platform nobody left documentation for. We hand over repository access, environment and deployment configuration, and written setup notes, and we walk your developers through them on a call. There is no retainer you have to sign to keep the lights on.

Considerations

What to know.

The overlap is a window, not a shared day

PHT is UTC+8 — seven hours ahead of BST, eight ahead of GMT. On a standard Philippine working day that gives you roughly two hours of live overlap in summer and about one in winter, all of it at the start of your morning: 16:00 in Silang is 09:00 in London through British Summer Time, and 17:00 here once the clocks go back. That is enough for a standup, a demo, or a decision. When a build genuinely needs more, we shift our start to midday PHT and cover your morning into the early afternoon — and we say which arrangement we are proposing before anything is signed, rather than discovering it in week three.

UK GDPR and where your data actually sits

The UK has not granted the Philippines adequacy, so personal data reaching our team is a restricted transfer that needs a mechanism behind it — usually the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, alongside your data processing agreement. We sign what your counsel specifies and process only under your instructions. The more useful point is practical: most builds do not need live personal data at all. We develop against anonymised or synthetic data, use named accounts with scoped access rather than shared logins, and remove that access at handover.

Contracting, NDAs, and supplier onboarding

UK buyers tend to want a mutual NDA before the second call and a services agreement under the law of England and Wales; neither is a sticking point. Larger organisations add a supplier onboarding pack — a security questionnaire, a data processing agreement, sometimes a policy request — and we complete those honestly rather than ticking boxes. We are a small studio, not a certified information security programme: if your procurement requires ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials from every supplier, tell us in the first conversation and we will say plainly whether we clear your bar. The off-payroll working rules that complicate engaging a UK contractor are often why a fixed-scope studio engagement gets considered at all, though how they apply to you is a question for your accountant, not for us.

Quoting and invoicing in GBP

We quote in GBP against a written scope, and a fixed quote is a fixed number: currency movement between kickoff and the final milestone is ours to absorb, not a mid-project variation you get handed. Invoices are raised per milestone and settled by bank transfer to our Philippine account, which UK finance teams generally run through the same supplier process they use for any overseas contractor. Scope changes are priced and agreed before they are built, so nothing appears on an invoice you have not already seen.

United Kingdom FAQ

Common questions.

Do you work with companies in the United Kingdom?

Yes. Blackbyrds Digital is based in Silang, Cavite, Philippines and works with clients internationally, including in Europe. Engagements run remotely: a scoping call, a written scope with a fixed quote in GBP, then milestone delivery against a preview environment you can check at any point without asking anyone. The starting point is an email to hello@blackbyrds.digital describing what you are trying to build.

How much overlap do we really get with a team in the Philippines?

On a standard 09:00–18:00 Philippine day, about two hours in summer and about one in winter, and it sits at the front of your morning — 16:00 in Silang is 09:00 in London during British Summer Time, 17:00 once the clocks go back. That is a comfortable window for a standup or a demo. If a project needs sustained real-time collaboration, we shift our start to midday PHT and cover your whole morning into the early afternoon. Everything outside that window runs in writing, because a project that only works during a call is a fragile project.

How do you handle UK GDPR and our data?

We process personal data only under your instructions and sign the data processing agreement you use with your other suppliers. Because the Philippines does not hold UK adequacy, transfers usually sit behind the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses — we work to whichever mechanism your counsel specifies. In practice we try to keep the question small: development runs against anonymised or synthetic data wherever possible, access is granted to named accounts and scoped to the project, and it is revoked at handover.

How do we contract with you and pay in GBP?

A mutual NDA first if you want one, then a services agreement — under the law of England and Wales if that is what your side requires. Work is quoted as a fixed price in GBP against a written scope and invoiced per milestone, settled by bank transfer. Nothing locks you in: once the agreed scope ships the engagement can stop there, and continuing support is a decision you make later rather than a clause you signed at the start.

What happens at the end of a project — can our own developers pick it up?

That is the intended outcome, and we build towards it from the start. Handover covers repository access, environment and deployment configuration, and written setup documentation, followed by a walkthrough call with your developers or your next agency. Where we have built something unusual, the reasoning is written down rather than left in someone’s head here. Partners who come back do so because they want to, not because the handover left them stuck.
