Web Development in Australia
Blackbyrds Digital builds web applications and marketing sites for Australian companies using Next.js, React and headless CMS platforms. We host in an Australian cloud region or on an edge network with local points of presence, meet WCAG 2.1 AA where your buyers require it, and wire content editing so your marketing team can ship a page without booking developer time. Work is quoted as a fixed scope in AUD, with the technical SEO layer and redirect mapping treated as deliverables rather than afterthoughts.
Why here
Why this works for Australia.
Two constraints shape web work in Australia that offshore vendors routinely ignore. The first is physical distance. The regions a framework reaches for by default sit in North America or Europe, so every request from a customer in Perth or regional Queensland crosses an ocean and comes back before the browser has executed a line of JavaScript — and that round trip is paid on each asset, not once per visit. On a mobile connection in regional Victoria or on the fringes of a capital, that compounds into the difference between a site that feels immediate and one that feels broken. None of the remedies are exotic: an Australian cloud region, an edge network with Sydney and Melbourne points of presence, and the ordinary discipline of not sending a phone a JavaScript payload measured in megabytes. What tends to be missing is not the technique but the decision — nobody chose a hosting region, so the default chose one for them.
The second is accessibility, which in Australia is a commercial constraint rather than a nice-to-have. WCAG 2.1 AA is written into government, university and health procurement, and large enterprises increasingly apply the same standard to their suppliers. Retrofitting it after design sign-off is expensive and never quite works, so we treat contrast, focus order, keyboard operation and semantic structure as build requirements from the component library up. Beyond that, most Australian web projects we take on are replatforms rather than new sites — an ageing WordPress or Umbraco build that is slow, hard to edit and quietly losing organic traffic. Those need redirect mapping, content migration and a technical SEO layer done properly, because the rankings a business has spent years earning are the thing most at risk in a rebuild.
How the work runs.
Hosted where your customers are
The hosting region gets chosen while the architecture is being drawn rather than inherited from a framework default, which in Australia usually means serving from inside the country or from an edge network that terminates here. The rest is unglamorous: image formats and sizes, font loading strategy, and a JavaScript bundle kept to what the page actually needs.
Accessibility that survives procurement
WCAG 2.1 AA lives in the component library rather than in a remediation backlog: semantic markup, keyboard operation, visible focus, contrast that measures, and behaviour a screen reader can follow. When a government, university or health tender puts an accessibility clause in front of you, the work is already done.
Content your team can actually change
Headless CMS integration with editing models that match how your marketing team thinks, so a new landing page or a campaign update does not require a developer, a deployment window or an invoice.

How it works with a team in the Philippines.
The closest working-day fit of any Western market. Perth runs on AWST — UTC+8, exactly the same clock as Manila. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane sit two hours ahead on AEST and three during daylight saving, and Adelaide splits the difference. A normal Philippine day overlaps the Australian one by five to seven hours without either side working unsociable hours.
A discovery call in your hours
One call to understand the product, the constraint and the deadline. We book it inside your working day, not ours.
A written thesis and a fixed quote
Within about a week you get our read on the problem, a scoped plan and one number. No hourly estimates, no retainer lock-in.
Weekly demos of working software
Every week you see the actual product on a staging link. Questions are answered inside the overlap window, not left overnight.
A handover you can run without us
Repository access, environment configuration and written documentation. Then ongoing growth work, if you want us to stay.

Web FAQ
Common questions.
How long does a build take?
A marketing site with approved designs in hand usually runs six to ten weeks. Add an application layer, a CMS migration or a set of integrations and it runs longer, quoted milestone by milestone. Either way the schedule arrives after discovery rather than before it — a date set by someone who has not yet looked at your content model, your redirect map or the systems you need to talk to is a date that moves.
Can you work with our existing brand and design team?
Yes — that is the usual arrangement. Your designer or your agency stays exactly where they are, hands over Figma, and we turn it into a documented component library the next designer can pick up without guessing at anyone’s intent. Where you want design covered too, our UX/UI practice quotes as its own line on the proposal, which you are free to strike out.
Will our search rankings survive a replatform?
That is the part we plan first. Before anything is rebuilt we crawl the existing site, inventory what actually earns traffic, and map every URL to its destination — including the ones nobody remembers publishing. Redirects, canonical handling, metadata, structured data and the XML sitemap ship with launch, and we watch Search Console through the transition rather than declaring victory at go-live.
