What is Reference-Driven Generation?
Reference-driven generation is the practice of conditioning an AI image or video model on supplied images rather than on words alone, so a real product, face or set appears the same in every generated shot. Locked references are what turn a set of separately generated clips into one continuous-looking piece.

Text prompts describe; references show. A model given three photographs of an actual product, or a frame from a shot already approved, produces output anchored to those images, which is the practical way to keep a label readable, a face recognisable and a set consistent across shots generated minutes apart. Productions normally lock a small set of references early, generate everything against them, and treat a shot that drifts as a re-roll rather than as a new creative idea.
The limits are worth stating plainly. Fine detail such as small type, logos and hands still drifts between generations, which is why human finishing passes exist. References supplied to a model have to be images the business is entitled to use, so a competitor’s photograph is not a legitimate reference. And a recognisable person needs permission before their likeness anchors a generation, whatever the tooling makes technically easy.

Can we use our own product photos as references?
Yes, and photographs of the real product are usually the single largest quality improvement available. Several angles under even lighting, with the packaging legible, give a model enough to hold the shape and colour across shots. Poor references produce a plausible product that is recognisably not yours.
